 Elections are coming up quick, so make sure you get out there and make your voice heard.  The big presidential election isn't until next year, but come this November 3rd, we have two Benbrook city council spots up for election.

Halloween 2015

It's almost here!

Apparently, it's going to be a warm one, so this is the year for your skimpiest costume (or not).

Mont Del is a Trick-or-Treat friendly neighborhood, and we encourage everyone to go out there and get some candy.  Here's the real trick: turn on your porch light to welcome Trick-or-Treaters, or turn it off to keep those pesky kids off your lawn.

Neighbor Spotlight

Paul Galvan

Paul was born in Longview, Texas.  He went through the Longview ISD schools and graduated from Longview High School in 1956. (He and Matthew McConaughey are Longview Lobos!)  He attended East Texas State University and graduated in 1960.  He earned his Masters from TCU in 1972.

While he was at East Texas State University, the head football coach noticed him refereeing intermural sports and asked him if he would like to referee high school basketball, Paul agreed he would, so the head coach got him signed up with the local officials organization and he started officiating high school basketball with the head football coach at ETSU.
After Paul’s graduation from ETSU, he coached middle school in Longview and Gladewater from 1960 to 1965.  In 1965, he coached high school at Marshall High School.  In 1968, he moved to Ft Worth and coached at Poly High School.
In 1965, he was asked to referee at the college level in the Southwest Conference. In 1974, he was asked to also referee in the Southeastern Conference. He also refereed in the Metro Athletic Conference and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC)
Paul refereed in the following Final 4 Tournament games:
1974 – Greensboro, North Carolina
1975 – San Diego, California
1977 – Atlanta, Georgia
1986 – Dallas, Texas
1987 – New Orleans, Louisiana

In 1974, Paul was asked by the NCAA and the Department of Defense to hold coaching and officiating clinics at military bases in the Pacific.  Paul held these clinics in Hawaii, Taiwan, Okinawa, and Japan

Paul was the Supervisor of Officials for the Southland Conference from 1984-1994 and the Southwest Conference from 1986-1994.

Paul retired from officiating in 1994.

Paul also was the principal at Trimble Tech High School from 1972-1994, Diamond Hills Jarvis 1994-1995, and Athletic Director for Ft Worth ISD from 1995-2005.

Honors Paul has received have been:
  • Inducted to the Texas A&M University-Commerce Hall of Honor- 2004
  • Inducted to the Texas High School Athletic Director’s Hall of Honor – 2005
  • Field at Clark Stadium named in his honor – 2005
  • National NCAA Basketball Hall of Fame (for refereeing in 5 Final Four games)

Paul serves on the following committees:
  • University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Executive Committee
  • Executive Committee for the Armed Forces Bowl in Ft Worth annually
  • Executive Committee for Score a Goal in the Classroom

Movie by the Pond

This year's movie by the pond is finally here.  Presented by our new HOA President, Wes Myers.

Where: Mont Del Duck Pond

Bring: your own chairs, blankets, and bug repellent.
The HOA will provide popcorn, but feel free to bring any other snacks or beverages.

Comment from Wes: Come join us an re-live your childhood with a showing of the family adventure, ET.  A great way to meet some neighbors and gaze up at the stars to see if you can catch a glimpse of a flying BMX bicycle.  We hope to see you there!

Hazardous and E-waste Collection

This Saturday October 3, 2015 (tomorrow) Benbrook will be collecting household hazardous waste.

Time: 9:00 am to 11:00 am or until full

Location: Dutch Branch Park rear parking lot.  The below map is by best guess based on the description on the Benbrook City website

Acceptable Items: acids, aerosol cans, antifreeze, all batteries, brake fluid, craft and hobby materials, degreasers, drain cleaners, fertilizer, herbicides, household chemicals, light bulbs, motor oil, oil filters, paint/stains, paint thinners, pest strips, pesticides, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, solvents, transmission fluid, and varnishes.

Not Acceptable Items: ammunition, explosives, medical waste (including medicine), radioactive material (smoke detectors), waste generated by businesses, tires, propane, pharmaceuticals, and butane cylinders.

Acceptable E-waste: computers, monitors, printers, scanners, appliances, fax machines/copiers, radios/telephones, televisions, smoke detectors, and gaming systems.
